  • Hey Jenna, I can’t stop feeling that my book isn’t worth writing, that it won’t be a succes, that it’s too similar to another book and that I don’t have the skill to write it. I don’t even know what I’m asking you. I guess maybe what to do when I feel this way. Thanks your a really cool person:)

Everyone feels this way at some point. I know I have. Are you passionate about your story? Passion and confidence aren’t the same thing. I was very passionate about EVE, but I’ve lost track of the number of times I ended up crying over it, whining to Cliff about how “no one will read this shit pile.” But I wrote it anyway because I really, really loved the story and the characters.

Now let’s look at your situation logically. Say you do grit your teeth and write that book. The worst thing that could happen is the story isn’t that good. So what? How many people are able to write an entire book, let alone a good one? Not many. You’ve still surpassed billions of people in this world, even with a crappy book. Plus, you’ll learn so much about the art of writing, your next book will inevitably be superior. On the flip side, the best thing that could happen is your book is amazing and all of your dreams come true. Pretty sweet deal, right? Sounds like something worth pursuing.

    Write the damn book.

I’m putting this on my blog because I really need to hear this…

they told us about this in my intro biology course? like apparently being a Sphere maximizes your surface area to volume ratio, which leads to losing less heat.

so the colder the climate, the more Sphere animals become.

I need this to live forever on my blog. It’s beautiful. This is the kind of quality content I demand from my internet.

I am still laughing… I think I watched this loop a dozen times.

you know, I hear a lot about mermaids here but there isn’t much love for harpies

    • peacock harpies, with the males having long gorgeous undulating tails that trail behind them as they walk, that are dangerous not because they are outwardly violent but because they are so charming and beautiful that you don’t know you’re in danger until their claws are at your throat
    • magpie harpies that hoard treasure like dragons in holes in trees and the nooks of branches
    • waterfowl harpies that slip through the water like most harpies fly through air, that follow ships and tag along with mermaids looking for scraps, the scouts of the rivers and seas
    • super-intelligent parrot harpies with glimmering jewel plumage and a gift for language and mischief, living in colonies and filling the air of the forests with their chatter and laughter

    shall I go on

    YES PLEASE GO ON

    linhfish:

Final project for one of my classes! This is a series of papercut illustration books of classic Chinese fairy/folk tale romances, but I altered the genders.

From left to right: the cowherd and weaver girl, the legend of lady white snake, and the butterfly lovers.

This was my first time making “books” of any kind, and definitely my most ambitious papercutting project yet (I used up about 20 blades this semester!). I look forward to doing more of both in the future!
