Everyone feels this way at some point. I know I have. Are you passionate about your story? Passion and confidence aren’t the same thing. I was very passionate about EVE, but I’ve lost track of the number of times I ended up crying over it, whining to Cliff about how “no one will read this shit pile.” But I wrote it anyway because I really, really loved the story and the characters. 

Now let’s look at your situation logically. Say you do grit your teeth and write that book. The worst thing that could happen is the story isn’t that good. So what? How many people are able to write an entire book, let alone a good one? Not many. You’ve still surpassed billions of people in this world, even with a crappy book. Plus, you’ll learn so much about the art of writing, your next book will inevitably be superior. On the flip side, the best thing that could happen is your book is amazing and all of your dreams come true. Pretty sweet deal, right? Sounds like something worth pursuing. 

Write the damn book.
